Paul Fields
Managing Director
Paul is the Managing Director of S.P. Fields (Contractors) Ltd with over 40 years’ experience in the construction and civil engineering industries.
Under his leadership and guidance, SP Fields offer a full turn key solution from design to work completion.
With safety as his ultimate priority and that of the company Paul has a philosophy that no job is so important as to compromise safety. As such ensuring that resources are always adequately allocated towards safety schemes.
Staff training is also a key priority for the company. With this philosophy at the forefront, Paul has delivered complex and diverse projects throughout the UK on time, on budget and to the highest quality. These projects include major civil and construction works, housing schemes and retail builds and fit outs.
Matthew Mahoney
Contracts Director
BSc (Hons) MRICS MCInstCES
Matthew is a Chartered Quantity Surveyor who has gained significant experience in the civil engineering, infrastructure, and building industries in the United Kingdom over a career spanning over 20 years. He has extensive experience of civil engineering and process projects, providing commercial and contract management and dispute resolution services to clients in the public and private sector.
Matthew gained a honours degree in Quantity Surveying at Sheffield Hallam University and is a member of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (MRICS) and also a member of the Chartered institute of Civil Engineering Surveyors (MCInstCES).
Career progression has led Matthew to his role as Contracts Director at SP Fields, he is responsible for tendering and estimating, pre and post contract administration and liaison with clients, ensuring that all projects are delivered on time and within budget, that quality is never compromised and all contractual obligations are met.
Ryan Walker
Operations Director
Ryan joined SP Fields in 2010 and has progressed his career with the company. Thanks to his expertise in man management and willingness to develop, Ryan has moved through a steep trajectory to become SP Fields’ Operations Director, overseeing the delivery of projects on behalf of all clients.
Ryan holds several construction related qualifications and has a deep knowledge and understanding of the construction industry and the many trades involved.
A skilled communicator and with excellent interpersonal skills, Ryan is client focused and able to deliver large scale, complex projects in a safe and efficient manner on behalf of the client.
Able to understand and co-ordinate client requirements in a practical way, Ryan offers our clients confidence in the delivery of all works.
Ryan leads a team of site supervisors and project managers, ensuring that all works are completed safely, on time and within budget.
David Birkhead
Commercial Director
David joined S.P. Fields (Contractors) Ltd as a Non-Executive Director to advise the board on the future development of the company, to increase market share, and to introduce quality assurance and compliance measures throughout the organisation leading to service enhancement.
Experienced in implementing working procedures and developing company cultures, David has an extensive background at boardroom and consultancy level gained over many years in customer centric environments.
David has worked with some of the largest companies in the UK at advisor level and is highly skilled in scaling businesses and the introduction and onboarding of new clients.
It is envisaged that David will introduce practices and procedures he has devised and tested over many years to further enhance the service offering at S.P. Fields.
Mike Mahoney
SHEQ Manager
Mike joined SP Fields in 2021 to offer support to a major CDM project. He brought with him experience of working both in the UK and Europe, with several major engineering and construction companies. These including North Midland Construction, Cammell Laird, Ansaldo Nuclear, TARMAC, British Steel, PJD Engineering and BWS.
Projects include:
• Preparatory works for the M621 upgrade
• Major road construction works in Humberside
• Grey to Green Project in Sheffield
• Power station works in the UK and Europe
• A2 Permitting to foundries in the UK
Qualified to Masters level in Safety and holding various environmental qualifications, Mike has seen the safe delivery of major CDM projects on behalf of S.P. Fields.
Tommy Fields
Senior Supervisor
Despite his relatively young age Tommy has been with the company for many years and has risen through the ranks on merit.
Tommy has assisted in delivering many diverse, large scale projects, both as an onsite worker and in recent years by being part of the site operations management team.
Possessing an array of construction industry qualifications and several years of practical onsite experience, Tommy has gained a lot of experience in a relatively short period of time, and has become a very important jigsaw in the operations department of the company.
Tommy possesses a keen eye for detail and impeccable standards which he insists that all members of the site teams adhere to.
